CA Legislature Torpedoes IT Overtime
I always felt that California laws are much better then rest of the
country as far as work/life balance is concerned like for example
California was the first state to have a law called Paid Family
Leave(PFL).
I'm very dissappointed to see a law which prevents lawsuits being filed against corporations for overtime payments, gives a clear/unprecedented powers to Corporations to expect people to work weekends and long hours without any legal recourse for employees.

Tech industry lobbies Sacramento to avoid paying OT
There is an article on Mercury news about the topic of Over time in
high-tech industry @ http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_10357223
To any silicon valley person this is definitley one of the major concerns as software companies are becoming very demanding and at the same time the laws allow them a free ride to ask people to put in as many hours as they want.

College saves money and boosts morale with 4-day week
There is an article on Yahoo @ http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=Atm.KMBqoZ2JlyDnF3OMn2Z72PAI;_ylu=X3oDMTBiZ3MwbHJsBHBvcwM0BHRhYgMw/SIG=12koilksg/**http%3A//us.lrd.yahoo.com/SIG=118bjsg14/**http%253A//gmy.news.yahoo.com/v/9240050 which talks about 4 day workweek of 10 hours.
I strongly disagree with the benefits of this because I feel that it might work in the case of hourly paid workers but it is dangerous for software professionals(who are not paid by the hour) working in high-tech industry because i feel that this is just an invitation for employers to ask employees to work 40 hours in 4 days and then the weekends.

Leaders Need a work life balance
I came across a very nice article about work-life balance in this 24x7 , always on , culture.
I don't know about others but in general I have seen an increasing demand from employers to be working in a 24x7 mode. The problem becomes more complex when your immediate team members or reports are distibuted in 3-4 timezones.
The problem becomes more complex for white collar jobs , who are considered as "exempt" and expected to work 24x7 without getting overtime pay etc. There is a nice Slashdot article about it .
And in this internet connected world it is very hard to draw a line between work and life.
We will see how future will shape up , my current belief is that we will be moving to a per hour basis, but time will tell.
